) then you have benefited from the work of Sonny Brewer. Mr Brewer selects the best work of Southern writers and creates the substantial Blue Moon Cafe volumes. Cast of Characters and Other Stories
is similar, for it showcases Southern writing, both fiction and creative nonfiction, but it is a smaller collection. The quality in this collection is very high; it is comprised of great writing. I was quite pleased to discover works by three of my favorite authors (William Gay, Ron Rash and Rick Bragg) included in this volume. Most of the works are fiction (short stories) but several are creative nonfiction or essays. Some stories are humorous and some dramatic. This volume covers a wide range of styles, but all the works are Southern (in one way or another) and all are well-written. If you like short stories or Southern writing, then I encourage you to add this volume to your collection. A Cast of Characters
